On Wednesday Russell Westbrook and the Oklahoma City Thunder have agreed to a three year contract extension worth $85.7 million dollars. By the numbers Westbrook will make $26.5 million this season and $28.5 million in 2017. Thunder general manager Sam Presti will hold a press conference on Thursday. This is a deal that Presti had to get done. The Thunder traded James Harden prior to the 2012 season, Serge Ibaka was traded to the Orlando Magic on draft night and the ultimate lost was Kevin Durant choosing not to resign with OKC , signing with the Golden State Warriors instead. Westbrook's new contract adds one year to existing deal. Westbrook would have been a restricted free agent next summer, but can opt out of deal the summer of 2018. Sam Presti and the Thunder will be looking to find a co-star for the 8 year veteran, who averaged 23.5 points, 10.4 assists and 7.8 rebounds per game. Can the Thunder add some pieces to stay competitive in the talented western conference? We shall see. Stay tuned for more updates.
