On Friday a woman was fatally shot while pushing a stroller on the south side of Chicago. Nykea Aldridge 32, who was identified as cousin of Chicago Bull star Dwyane Wade. Aldridge was walking to school to register her kids when walked up and opened fire on a third man about 3:30pm on Friday. On Thursday Dwyane Wade and his mother Jolinda Wade were apart of a series of panels on gun violence hosted by The Undefeated on ESPN. The panels were held at the South Side YMCA, focusing on athletes and their experiences with violence. Wade who is a Chicago native was not in attendance but appeared via satellite. Police had questioned three people of interest, but no arrests have been made. Chicago has been hit hard by violence this year. More than 2,600 people have been shot in the city, mainly on the South and West sides. With 463 murders as of Wednesday, Chicago is on pace to record its largest number of homicides since 1997, when 761 people were killed in the city. Its murder rate is higher than that of New York and Los Angeles. Stay tuned for more updates.
